ARTIST STATEMENT
Before dawn, as I meditate, geometry and light enter my mind’s eye. I record these images in my drawing journal as they fade into silence. Later in my studio, I decipher them with layers of luminous and opaque paint, minimalist abstract forms, and moving images. These small daily rituals, unveil a message that takes time, maybe even lifetimes, to decode.
For over three decades, I have been contemplating the ethereal qualities of abstraction through geometry, line, the digital and the hand-made. My current practice is centered on painting, sculpture, prints, and video installation. The throughline in my work lies just below the surface of things, in the play between form and the formless.
I am deeply inspired by Giorgio de Chirico's visionary Pittura Metafisica (Metaphysical Art), the stillness of the Rothko Chapel in Houston (where I grew up and often visited), and the shimmering qualities of Agnes Martin’s late paintings. My work is both intimate and timeless in all its varied forms. Structure and luminosity act as a conduit for an inner light that ripples out into the world in a kind of alchemical transformation.
